Saturday Night Presence JournalOctober 25, 2008The title of the teaching from Jeremiah 18 was “The Autonomy of the Believer.” God gives us the power of choice. The prophet Jonah preached a word of judgment to the city of Nineveh. When the king heard the word of God, he called for a fast of repentance. As a result, the city was saved. Their choice to change their ways turned the word of the Lord that was given through the prophet Jonah around.
The prophet Habakkuk witnessed the hand of God turn against Israel. God had promised to build them up and make them his chosen people, but they chose to worship other gods and break the laws of God. He in turn sent the Babylonians as his instruments of wrath. Their choice to do evil caused God to change his position. Only this time it was for judgment instead of repentance, which would have lead to forgiveness and salvation. Fortunately this would only last for a season and the nation of Israel would once again be restored through their repentance.
It is amazing that our choices can dictate how God will relate with us. He calls us to live according to His law of love. Jesus said that we must love God and love each other as He loves us. When we do we are blessed. His desire is for us to live in peace and harmony. However, it is our choice to do so.
The altar was filled with people praying for each other and worshipping Jesus. Such a beautiful presence permeated the entire service.
